Custom Pouch Packaging from Technical RFQ to Approved Production
Custom pouch packaging is a project system, not a picture of a bag. Product conditions, format, structure, printing, samples, machine or filling method, documents, inspection, packing and repeat-order control must arrive at one approved production version.
The buyer can send an incomplete brief. The supplier should make the missing conditions visible.
Send the details you know; we will highlight the missing choices that affect price, samples, timing and production.
| Project area | Buyer input | CPP return |
|---|---|---|
| Product conditions | Product type, fill weight, sensitivity, shelf-life target and storage/distribution. | Missing-condition list, candidate structure questions and validation needs. |
| Format and size | Desired pouch type, reference pack, fill method, shelf footprint and closure. | Format options, drawing or blank-sample path and usable-capacity questions. |
| Artwork and appearance | File, colors, transparent areas, finish, legal copy and barcode. | Prepress issue list, proof scope and color-reference requirements. |
| Quantity and launch plan | Quantity per design, number of SKUs, repeat expectation and target date. | Process/MOQ path, tooling or setup assumptions and production milestones. |
| Market and documents | Destination, food/non-food use, retailer or buyer requirements. | Structure-to-document list and items requiring customer or regulatory confirmation. |
| Packing and delivery | Carton, pallet, shipping term, partial-air needs or warehouse constraints. | Packing assumptions and separate production/freight milestones. |
A stand-up pouch, flat-bottom bag or three-side-seal pouch solves different handling and display problems.
Compare formats by how your product is filled, displayed, shipped and opened—not by appearance alone.
Stand-up pouch
Useful for shelf display and resealing. Review gusset opening, standing stability, zipper, headspace and filled shape.
Flat-bottom pouch
Creates a stable block and larger panels. Review corner seals, filling opening, valve/zipper and carton compression.
Three-side-seal pouch
Efficient for samples, powders and portions. Review tear path, opening, seal width and filling productivity.
Roll film
Suitable for form-fill-seal lines when machine parameters, repeat, winding, COF, core and seal window are controlled.
Sampling should close defined risks in the right order.
Use the simplest sample that answers the next important question, then move forward with a clear approval record.
Confirm the decision map
Identify product, size/fill, structure, print, feature, machine, market and quantity gaps.
Use stock or blank samples
Load the real product and review capacity, opening, gusset, closure, top seal and packing.
Use the appropriate printed proof
Check content, layout, transparent areas, finish and approximate or production-relevant color according to the proof scope.
Create the Approved Specification
Tie drawing, structure, artwork, features, tolerances, references, packing and documents to a version.
Pass the Production Gate
Release production after the required approvals and commercial conditions are complete.
Use RepeatSpec
Retrieve the approved version, compare proposed changes and confirm the repeat order before production.
“Strict QC” becomes useful only when the buyer knows what is inspected and how a decision is made.
Agree on what will be checked, the acceptable range and the sample or test used to approve the result.
Incoming and structure control
Identify the material, structure code, supplier version and critical incoming information relevant to the order.
Print and conversion control
Review artwork version, color reference, registration, cutting, seal geometry, zipper or valve placement and appearance.
Functional checks
Use seal, leak, closure, puncture, drop or machine trials where the project risk requires them.
Packing and traceability
Confirm quantity tolerance, carton configuration, labels, batch information, retained samples and shipment release.
A “fast delivery” statement is incomplete without an approval starting point and shipping method.
Plan the schedule from final approval through materials, printing, pouch making, inspection and freight.
| Milestone | Starts when | Buyer decision or evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Artwork/specification approval | Drawing, structure, artwork, features and references are accepted. | Approved version and unresolved-item closure. |
| Production preparation | Materials, tools or cylinders and schedule are available. | Confirmed quantity, process and commercial terms. |
| Manufacturing and cure | Printing/lamination begins under the released order. | In-process review or first-off approval when included. |
| Conversion and inspection | Material is ready for pouch making or slitting. | Inspection plan, quantity tolerance and packing requirements. |
| Freight | Goods are released and shipping documents are complete. | Incoterm, route, partial shipment, insurance and destination handling. |

What information is needed for a custom pouch packaging quote?
Can CPP recommend a material structure?
Which sample should I request?
Can production begin from an approved artwork file?
How are repeat orders controlled?
Does production lead time include freight?
Most delays begin before production, when key decisions are spread across files and conversations.
Put product, size, quantity, artwork, features and filling details in one brief so missing information is found before production.
Incomplete project conditions
A size and quantity alone cannot explain barrier, contact layer, closure, market documents, print route or machine requirements.
The wrong proof for the risk
A digital layout may confirm position but not final gravure color, usable capacity, zipper performance or production-line behavior.
Artwork without a controlled specification
Dimensions, materials, tolerances, functional parts, packing and reference samples should be approved with the artwork.
Changes hidden inside an old order
Review material, artwork, quantity and packing changes against the last approved version before a repeat order is released.
Ready for the next packaging decision?
Continue with the guide that matches your next task: choosing a format, preparing artwork, confirming size or planning food use.
Build the project around one controlled approval path.
Send the product, fill target, format or reference, artwork, quantity, market, desired features and filling method. CPP can return the missing fields, sample options and approval milestones before the order is released.
